THE HOME CAMPAIGN

A BOLD COMMITMENT TO LOVING THE CITY LONG TERM

The Home Campaign is our effort to secure a permanent physical space in DC

We are delighted to announce our purchase of the Third Baptist Church property, located in DC's Shaw neighborhood! On January 12, 2024, we signed the settlement papers. Built in 1893, Third Baptist Church provided a gospel witness in the District for more than 130 years. We are humbled and and excited by the opportunity to continue this vital witness - especially at a time when Third Baptist members and leaders desire to relocate to nearby Prince George's County, Maryland. We are grateful to the Lord for his faithful provision and to many donors for your generous support. Please continue to pray with us for the details of the renovations and transition.

This is just the beginning. Some renovations and repairs to this beautiful historic space are required before Church of the Advent can inhabit it. We anticipate moving into our new home in 2025. Your support is still needed, for both the purchase and renovation of the building.

It all started when…

In 2007, Church of the Advent began as a living room gathering in an apartment in Newton Street NW with a mission to seek the flourishing of Washington, DC.

Since then, the church has been forced to relocate seven times, causing instability with every move. Yet our sense of calling to this city has only grown.

We believe now is the time in the life of our church to find a permanent home. A physical space will allow us to better seek the welfare of DC— but we cannot complete this mission without you.

The Vision

To see DC become a great home for all people where Jesus Christ is Lord.

The Opportunity

While Christian faith and church attendance are declining in the West, Advent remains a vibrant, historically rooted, gospel-centered church in the heart of the nation’s capital.
