The Parish Council is composed of elected lay members and ordained presbyters of Advent. The Parish Council governs the administrative affairs of Advent—hiring, space, developing a budget, to list a few—and provides advice and counsel to the Rector and clergy on the direction of the church's ministry.

Amy was born and raised in southwest Missouri, and taught junior high school students in the St. Louis area for four years after college graduation. In 2002, she moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she served on the ministry staff of two different churches for over a decade. In the summer of 2013, she was wooed away from her life in Brooklyn by her husband, Bryan, and they both began attending and became members of Advent shortly after their nuptials. Amy and Bryan welcomed their son, Cade, in March 2015, and daughter Nora in July 2017. Amy  enjoys serving Advent family on the Parish Council, particularly through the expanded opportunity to pray for the needs of our community and the greater glory of Jesus among us.

RECTOR'S WARDEN

Josh began attending Church of the Advent in 2008, shortly after he moved to D.C. He worked for several years on Capitol Hill and now directs communications for a think tank. He is indebted to the Advent community for many things, but most of all for his wife, Eleanor, whom he met in 2010 at a party hosted by friends from church. He and Eleanor live in Petworth with their daughters, Lily and Ruth, and enjoy going to Nationals games as often as they can.

Originally hailing from the great state of Michigan, Sonya moved to DC in 2012 by way of Knoxville, TN. She is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Mary's Center, a local community health center in Adams Morgan. 2016 marked 16 years of marriage to Erik, her best friend and high school sweetheart—they live in Petworth with their two cats. She began attending Advent in the spring of 2012 and felt that it is where the Lord was leading her and Erik both to serve and grow. Sonya services our church on the Parish Council in the role of People's Warden. She is discovering new ways to connect with and engage our community as we look to what's ahead.

SARAH MOXLEY SECRETARY

SARAH MOXLEY
SECRETARY

Sarah came to DC in January of 2006 and began attending Church of the Resurrection, Advent's sister church, shortly thereafter, where she was involved in a number of things over her ten years as a member. Sarah and her husband, Charles, joined the Brookland church plant and are excited about what the future holds. They live in Eckington where they enjoy having people over for meals around the table or the firepit. Sarah is an avid Nationals fan and cheers for the Texas A&M Aggies. While newer to the Advent community, she has actually attended services at each of Advent's locations, including the small house church it began in.
