This initiative of Washington, D.C. churches focuses on working together to ensure the success of every child in foster care and those at risk of entering the child welfare system. As an initiative, DC127 and Advent believe we have a responsibility and call to mobilize our communities and congregations to care for some of the most vulnerable children in our city.

Based out of three public housing communities, Little Lights provides students with high quality and intensive after-school and summer programs, including opportunities for academics and enrichment, one-to-one mentoring, and spiritual growth. Little Lights also empowers adults and families through opportunities for family resourcing and workforce development.

Advent’s Ministries

Church of the Advent has created several ministries to specifically partner with others in the DC area. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please email us at admin@adventdc.org.

The Refugee Support Ministry was born out of the desire to help provide tangible help to newly arriving Afghan refugees in the DC metro area. We look to support refugee resettlement agencies such as Lutheran Social Services and provide a "long welcome" for these new neighbors of ours. Join our Advent Commons group for updates on opportunities to serve local refugee families and share Christ's love through action.

The Antioch Ministry seeks to reflect the early church (as seen in Acts) by pursuing unity in diversity through inward spiritual formation and discipleship and outward kingdom action. The initial strategy of the Antioch Ministry is to build an intentional partnership with our host congregation, Takoma Park Seventh Day Adventist Church. Through service opportunitites and joint community events, we are learning what it takes to build a strong partnership with a non-white church that honors cultural difference, enables authentic relationship building, and expands our understanding of God's heart for repentance, reconciliation, and renewal.
