Advent is home to Trail Life USA Troop DC-1. Trail Life is a Christ-centered, boy-focused character development organization that helps young men grow to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure.

Discipleship

Trail Life complements what our boys learn about faith in church on Sundays and at home during the week. Through fun activities, service, mentoring, lessons, and experiencing God’s creation, their faith in Jesus can grow, and they are equipped for peer discipleship and evangelism. Every element of the Trail Life program is designed to help our boys “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” (Col. 1:10)

Friendship

With the boys of our church spread across many parts of the D.C. area and attending a wide range of public, private, and home schools, Trail Life provides a structured, regular opportunity for them to spend time together and build deeper friendships, as well as offering a place for visitors to jump in and make connections. We hope Trail Life will help our boys experience “thick community” that binds us together as followers of Christ (Col. 3:14).

Adventure

Outdoor adventure is core to Trail Life. Camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities help build deep relationships and allow boys to develop character, practice leadership, and experience adventure. The outdoor focus helps boys appreciate the wonder, majesty, and grandness of God as reflected in creation. We experience adventure through hikes, campouts, bike rides, service projects, and other age-appropriate activities throughout the year, and as our troop (and boys) grow we will plan bigger adventures to come.

“WALK WORTHY” WITH US

Troop DC-1 meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at Takoma Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 6951 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912. We host monthly “Hit the Trail” activities on weekends, including hikes, campouts, service projects, museum visits, and other adventures.

For the 2023-24 school year, starting in September, we are running the Woodlands Trail program for boys in grades K-5. We will also offer the Navigators program for boys in grades 6-8 depending on interest. Let us know if you would like to participate!
